As you may have seen, weighted blankets are in right now. You may be wondering how these blankets became so popular and why they’re such a big deal. Luckily for you, we have all that and more.
What is a Weighted Blanket?
A weighted blanket is like a regular blanket, heavier. However, not all weighted blankets are the same. Some have a filling to make them weigh more, while others are woven using heavier materials to make them weighted.
Why Use a Weighted Blanket?
Now that you know what a weighted blanket is, let's go over why you should use one. Weighted blankets have more benefits than you probably think. The overall idea behind them comes from Deep Pressure Stimulation (DPS). DPS occurs when the nervous system relaxes due to heavy, applied pressure, causing the body to feel calm and at ease. Weighted blankets are one of the many ways to trigger DPS. Other benefits of using a weighted blanket include:
- Helps ease anxiety and stress
- Helps to calm individuals while sleeping
- Helps individuals sleep better

Now that you know more about weighted blankets, you may be interested in buying one. When purchasing a weighted blanket, it’s important to buy the one that will work best for you. Weighted blankets can come in a variety of weights. There rule of thumb is to buy a blanket that is 10 percent of your body weight.
