Sleeping on an adjustable bed can do wonders for your sleep. Some of our customers that struggle with snoring claimed that it stopped after purchasing an adjustable bed and using it to elevate their head. Other customers also report having less back and neck pain. After hearing from existing customers, many state that it takes a few nights to fully adjust to their new adjustable bed. It makes sense; such a dramatic change to your sleeping patterns could take a few nights to fully acclimate to.

How Long Does It Take to Get Used to an Adjustable Bed?

So, how long does it take to get used to an adjustable bed? Is there anything you can do to speed up the process? Our goal has always been to help you get a better night's sleep, so let's talk about it!

Getting to know your remote

Your adjustable bed will come with a remote to control the base. If you purchased the Bliss or Platinum series, you can also use your cell phone as an extra remote by downloading the Sven & Son app from your phone's app store. The remote for an adjustable bed can vary depending on where you purchase your base, but it’s a good idea to understand the main functions of each button. Take a look at the instructions for your remote and learn what each button does. It's also a good idea to look over warranty information for your adjustable base and any other accessories you might have so you understand how best to protect your new bed. If you’d like to read more about Sven & Son’s warranty policy, check out this blog post about our warranty information.

Finding the right position for you

Finding the perfect position can sometimes be difficult. To learn about the most comfortable way to sleep, we suggest getting first-hand experience. Sit on your bed and start playing with the remote and figure out what works best for you! Some remotes include suggested presets that can be adjusted as needed so they work for you. Sven & Son adjustable bases include a zero-gravity sleep preset. Zero-gravity sleep has many benefits. If you'd like to learn more about those or figure out how your base can adjust to zero-gravity, check out our blog post about sleeping in zero gravity. Some remotes may include a memory preset button, which, when pressed, can adjust the base to what you deemed was the most comfortable, allowing you to truly customize your sleep.

Sleeping is a very personal topic. While we may suggest positions to try, trying the bed out yourself and experimenting with the controls is the best way to find what works for you. In doing this, you'll get to know your adjustable bed.

Healthy sleeping recommendations

While there's no “right” way to sleep per se, there are proven health benefits to sleeping in a certain position. For side sleepers, doctors often recommend sleeping on your right side, not your left. Sleeping on your left side can put pressure on your heart, while sleeping on your right side takes pressure off of it. Doctors may also recommend patients that suffer from snoring or sleep apnea use an adjustable bed to elevate their head while sleeping. If this conversation interests you, take a look at our blog post about doctor's recommendations for adjustable beds.

Getting to Sleep

As we’ve said before, sleeping is a very personal thing. Each person's body is different and there is no set deadline for getting used to an adjustable bed. We can make suggestions about what we think is the best sleeping position, and what a doctor might recommend, but it's not a guaranteed solution for everyone. That’s why our biggest recommendation is to explore all the options your remote has and try out different settings and positions firsthand. Your best sleep is whatever is comfortable to you, so we recommend finding that and enjoying your best rest yet.
